But What If…

“What if I fail? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” - Erin Hanson

How many times have you felt like something good is coming but then thought “But what if…”. What if it doesn’t work out? What if we don’t make it? What if they hate me? It’s easy to fall into the ‘but what if’ trap. Especially when coming out of a difficult season. You have just seen the dark side. So, when the light starts to appear it can make you wonder who’s really got the switch. Meaning, will you walk towards that beautiful bright light only to get it switched off on you leaving you in total darkness again? Or will you be able to stand in all its glory. It can be scary to think about. Finally getting to the light is all we yearn for. But the disappointment that it won’t actually be the time for it to happen weighs heavy. So, what should we do?

The Bible gives you 3 things. Faith, Hope, and love.

Faith. “By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.” (‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬). We may not see the light yet. Faith is what will bring it into full reality. Our faith in Him makes so many things possible. It keeps us believing that no matter what is happening God will do it. God wants to bless you. He wants to rescue you. ‘But what if’ does not exist in a faith filled life. Only the ‘when it happens’ exists. So any time you hear that statement start to form, hold tight to your faith knowing that God is coming through.

Hope. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (‭‭Romans‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬) The good thing is not only can we put our hope in God but He returns it with peace and joy which cancel out the anxiety of ‘but what if’. Hope says there’s a chance. He is a God of the impossible so there absolutely is a chance. Hope also keeps you focused on the positive. That’s exactly where you want to be.

Finally, love. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬) placing our love in the right thing is important. Love for money will not save you. Love for more in your life will bring you unsatisfied hunger. But love in God brings all things good. He only has good plans for you. God does not allow for a ‘but what if’ when he has plans to bless you. Plus, when He comes through He blows you away.

So when you feel yourself think or start to say ‘but what if’ grab your faith in God and claim that your blessing is coming. Put your hope in the one who has and always will come through. The. Remember the love you have for him and the love he especially has for you. That super huge amazingly beautiful love will take care of you no matter what. Thank Him now because you've already got it. You just don’t see it yet.
