I Choose You

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”John‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God chose you. There. I said it. Now you have to deal with it. He chose you not because you’re pretty or because you’re a great dancer. He chose you because you have exactly what He wants. You as a whole, as a being, as a person. You are perfect for the job. Sometimes we think we need to be faster or we need to be smarter or we need to be skinnier. But do you know that God is not looking at any of those things.

He chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of the desert. Moses had an interesting life from birth. He finds out he is adopted and tries to embrace his people but they don’t want him. He clearly didn’t feel chosen for anything. Especially when God wanted him to lead these very people to their freedom. He also chose a man with a speech problem to talk to pharaoh. But it doesn’t end there. Before God even speaks to him Moses kills a man and runs. As in he killed a person and got out of there as fast as he could and God said yes. You are the man for the job. Moses did indeed fight to free the Israelites and got them all out of Egypt.

He chose Peter as his disciple. Peter cut off a man’s ear in anger. He also denied Jesus 3 times. I don’t know about you but if I am picking someone who is to be loyal to me I would prefer you acknowledge our relationship in public as well. But knowing all of this was going to happen didn't stop Jesus from stepping into Peter’s boat and later calling him the rock on which he will build his church. His church. The foundation of where Christians would gather to worship God. Peter was indeed the one to do it.

He chose Abraham to be the father of all nations. Abraham who was 99 years old with no children. None. Zero. But he would be a father of a mighty nation. I would have many questions indeed. This is where God shows us how limited our vision is. How many of us would have reacted the way Sarah did and taken matters into our own hands. Even with that mistake God takes it and turns it into something good eventually. He forgives and has mercy. Something we don’t always deserve. Sarah does give birth to a son and Abraham’s line does indeed begin.

It’s a great thing that not one of us is perfect. We make mistakes. We seem so wrong for what we are chosen to do. We feel like we don’t know anything about it. Flaws are always trending when it comes to our Father. Instead of looking at your flaws with hate let’s embrace them. It’s what makes us special. It’s why we are chosen. When we are faced with choices why do we pick those particular choices? Why do we go left and not right? Because we feel that is what is best for us. That is our thinking in our limited knowledge. How much more for God who knows all. If God chose you its because He feels you are what is best. You have all the right qualifications. You have the right skills. Regardless of your past, your present situation and your mistakes. God chose you. Deal with it.
