Take Care of You
How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you - Rupi Kaur
So it happened. I was exhausted with a headache and emotional and didn’t want to do ONE MORE THING. Yup. I had pushed past my limit. I don’t know about you but I tend to just push myself to get things done. I’ll rest tomorrow. I’ll pause tonight. I’ll breath next year. I forget that I’m not a robot. And push and push. But then the body has a way of reminding you that you are human. That’s when it breaks down and crumbles. Absolutely crashes. Then come the thoughts that you must be a failure. I just have 50 more cupcakes to bake. Now is not the time. I cannot fail. I cannot stop. People are depending on me. We forget that we depend on ourselves too.
What if you couldn’t get up in the morning? Then you can’t get your list of tasks done. You can’t get to work. You depend on your body to get things done. Good luck driving without a functioning body. So rest is very important for you. And by you I mean your body and your soul. Notice how in the beginning I mentioned physical effects and emotional effects. We get angry faster or sad or stressed or irritated. Any one of these or all of these. So resting is a very important part of functioning day to day. Even God rested on the seventh day after creating the world. How much more you.
Sometimes we also need to rest after a traumatic experience. When you have been hurt deeply your heart needs a break. Your mental health needs a break. I’m not a professional but as someone who’s heart has been broken multiple times I have realized that a break is needed. It gives you time to heal. It gives you the space to deal with what you just went through. Quick side note definitely wait until you’re ready to date again or you’ll be judging with a broken heart and making decisions from a hurt place. You wouldn’t go run a marathon on a sprained ankle. Why do that to your heart. It is a muscle too. That one you can definitely confirm with a doctor. Yeah, i knows some things. Haha.
Self-love goes right along with rest. A nice massage and fancy takeout are absolutely resting while loving on yourself. Things I would highly recommend you do once in a while regardless of where your life is. When you treat yourself well you are letting others know they should do the same for you as well. I believe it’s a great habit to have. If you keep dragging yourself through the dirt, would you really object to someone else doing it too? You would be used to it by then. It will become just another why not. You deserve good things. No. You deserve great things. So please take care of you. It’s the only way you’ll then be able to take care of others and share the blessing.
