It’s Making You Better

We learn and grow and become stronger as we face and survive the trials through which we must pass - President Thomas S. Monson

This may sound crazy, but that stressful, unbearable moment you’re in right now is making you better. It’s hard to see that. Very hard. Really, really hard. In fact, it sucks! So, nothing I say will make sense. But trust me, once you have come out and travelled a bit away from it and time has gone by and you finally take a look back, you will notice that Old You is very different from New You. New you will be improved and shinier and better. New you will have just finished climbing a mountain. New you will have fought a battle and won. New you will have learned she can endure the darkness through the night. New you will also never go back to old you either. Because the things you have seen and done cannot be taken back.

However, right now the focus is on the problem and overcoming it. Right now, the focus is on how do I get out of this? How does this end? How will I begin to survive this? The answer is you will. God doesn’t give you more than you can handle. He has given you the strength to overcome. Please repeat this last sentence again. He has given you the strength to overcome. Looking into His word, the Bible, you will see reminders of who your God is. Who he has made you to be. What power He has placed into your hands.

I do sympathize. You are tired of being strong. You are tired of fighting. That is understandable. It’s been a journey. Trials are never easy. If trials were easy they would be called a “try”. Not much effort needed. Just try it. See what I did there. If you are feeling weary and ready to throw in the towel. Don’t do it.

This trial is getting you closer to your purpose.

It’s refining the diamond that you are. How, you ask? Maybe you’re gaining patience. Maybe you’re tapping into newfound strength. Maybe you are learning something that could change someone’s life or even yours. It seems scary and unknown and hard. But don’t forget. You are not alone in this. Your maker is ready to carry you when you feel like you can’t take one more step forward. Look for him in the little things and big things. Did you have someone to confide in? Did you get a moment of peace to catch your breath? Did you feel love in a time of desperate need? Has encouragement touched your heart from a friend? That’s God using things and people around you showing His love for you. He’s everywhere and in everything.

So then comes the question. Why won't he just take it away? Only God knows the answer to that one. No one can answer it because we don’t know his plan for your life. But know this. You. Will. Make. It. Because “greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world”. One day this will be over because nothing lasts forever. When it is over, please let me know how it made you better so I can say I told you so ;)
