Liar in Your Head

One lie has the power to tarnish a thousand truths - Al David

There’s a liar in your head. Not to be confused with your own voice (Rescue You). When you see a challenge, you have the ability to decide whether you are going to move forward or not. You make the final decision. But the liar in your head will tell you that you can’t do it. It will tell you that you are not strong enough or smart enough. This liar will pop up in a way to make you think it’s you that is saying these things. It’s sneaky enough to keep repeating it until you start believing and saying it yourself. This makes the liar in your head destructive to reaching our potential.

It first helps to recognize when the liar is speaking. We are known to discourage ourselves at times. But where do you think that comes from? The liar. Every time we fail, the liar makes it seem like it’s a negative thing. It doesn’t want us to see that failure means wisdom gained. Every time someone hurts us, the liar wants to make us feel ashamed when in fact we did nothing wrong. If you find yourself saying anything negative, pause and think about where that came from. How did you get here? Before we even get to this point, the minute you hear “you’re lazy” or “no one likes you” that’s the liar.

It’s time to call that voice out for what it is. A lie!

How do we get it to stop? We can’t, but we can fight it. There is a commercial for Stelara, the medication for treating Crohn’s disease. When it wants to approach a person, they hold their hand up and yell back off Crohn’s! Why? Because they have this medication giving them the confidence to yell at it to go away. The knowledge that this medication will keep them safe puts the power back into their hands. That’s how we need to treat the liar. We need to take back control of our mind. We can’t listen or believe every thought that comes in.

Whenever you hear a negative thought, you need to jump up and yell “back off!” In your head that is. Let’s not scare those around us. Haha! Whenever you feel that fear of an opportunity or something amazing in your life do not accept it as truth. Our medication is God’s word, the Bible. Reading the truth and reminding ourselves of who we are and what we are capable of will be our weapon. For example:

2 Tim 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of love, power and self-discipline.”

1 John 4:4 “…because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. “

Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Repeat a truth over every lie and refuse to accept it. You are strong. You are not alone. You will survive. You are smart. You are beautiful. Don’t let the liar win!
