You Have A Gift
Being gifted doesn’t mean you’ve been given something. It means, you have something to give. - Iain Thomas
You were born unique and in that special body of yours is a special gift. A gift that as you grow older you will discover what it is. As you discover what your gift is you will then grow in it. As you grow in your special gift you become wiser and stronger. And as you’re wiser in your gift and stronger in your gift, use it for the purpose that it was given. As a gift is to be given to others your gift will also be given to others. It could be the gift of creativity. It could be the gift of charity. It could be the gift of love. It could be the gift of teaching. It could be the gift of guiding. It could be the gift of leading. Whatever gift you have is the gift that God placed in you. However as much as you would guard a gift that you have for a certain person in the same way you should guard the gift that God gave you.
Maybe you don’t see what you have as a gift. Perhaps you see them just as some skill or some thing that comes to you easily. But that thing that comes to you easily does not come to others just as easily. It takes some people years to get to the level that you are and that’s because you are gifted. You can throw an event with your eyes closed and it comes out beautifully. Not something that comes easily to others. You can budget and handle finances like a pro. You’re that person that takes a nickel and stretches it to a dollar worth. You can move around your kitchen with such ease it amazes everyone around you at the delicious meals you create. Definitely does not come easily to me. As much as I wish it could, it doesn’t stop me from trying. These are all examples of things that come easily to some and not others. This we all know. But did you know your gift is the thing you do well and absolutely love doing? It’s the thing that warms your insides. You’re the kid in the candy store that can’t wait for their turn. You love it and you’re good at it. It’s your gift.
Maybe you don’t think you were given a gift. That you are just this ordinary person put on this earth to dwell. That nothing seems to bring you joy. You feel you’re not good at anything. I will tell you that you are lying to yourself and believing those lies. Everyone has a gift. Everyone. Give yourself time to become aware of the things you love. This includes what you love to do or listen to or wear or eat. Anything you can think of. Start there and follow your heart. Follow your intuition. It will guide you to your gift. It took me years to find mine. And I mean years! Its a journey that will teach you a lot about yourself and who you are. That is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Get to know you.
But once you discover your gift you have another job to do. Beside sharing your gift and bringing glory to God, you need to protect your gift. Not everyone is going to be happy for you and your gift. Some will be jealous. Some will take advantage. Some will try to use you. Many different scenarios can come up. So you need to watch and be vigilant and protect yourself. Because if you don't, who will?
Gratitude is huge but is it necessary during trauma?
