You Were Made To Shine

“Let your light shine so brightly that others can see their way out of the dark. “- Katrina Mayer

You my dear were made to shine. When Jesus was giving his sermon on the Mount he first gave a list of all those that God blesses. Then he changed the subject just a bit. He paused to affirm who we are exactly. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” (Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬ ‭NLT).‬‬ These were his words. The light of the world. Not your house or your town or your state. Not even your country. But the whole entire world. We are the light and not just any light. We are his light. A light is made to shine bright. “No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

It’s not to be tampered with or darkened. Once again, you were not made to be tampered with or darkened. You were not made to sit in a corner and shut up. Nor were you made to just exist. Shining consists of you reaching your full potential. Following in the footsteps that God designed for you to go. Being the daughter of an almighty king. Reaching that purpose, goal, destiny. These are your good deeds. It is not just for ourselves, but using it to the glory of God.

However, when we walk in the wrong direction or on our own; when we allow the world to keep us down, we have officially dimmed our light. Do not think you have nothing to offer either. There is a light within you. Please don’t think nothing good is ever going to come for you.

There is truly a brilliant light within you.

Your light is like a beacon. You lead the way for others who are lost to God. You guide them through dark paths that you once walked. You boost them up and show them a brighter future.

But be careful because moths are also attracted to light. There will be others who will want to snuff out your light. When others abuse and use us; when they try to break us in any way, they are tampering with our light. Stay close to God your father. Keep in line with him. He is the giver and the protector of your light. He is light himself and created light from the very beginning. No matter how hard it gets in the journey of fighting to stay up remember this. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:5). You can and will overcome it.

So what are the characteristics of this light? “for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth” (Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV)‬‬. Aside from chasing after our purpose we have a duty to remain good. To be righteous and go for truth. We are not perfect nor could we ever be Jesus but we can sure try our hardest. This world was dark and God sent light into it. He died for us and we continue on that legacy. We carry the torch and aim to spread love/light to others. Until we get to the end and hope he considers us having completed a job well done.

So shine and keep shining. Understand that your light is special. Keep a watchful eye for any part that wants to darken your good spirit. Know that you already have everything you need. Be strong, courageous and determined to help anyone else who needs to get their light shining through. You were made to shine.
